The actual number of houses built was based on the total Auckland housing stock from the year start to year end of each year, done by QV.co.nz
The reason we actually built 6000 houses in 2016 was a lot of the building consents were for two dwellings, but developers brought a section with one house, subdivided the section and built two houses.
So the stock increase of houses in Auckland was only one as there was one already there.
We had 65k people arrive in Auckland last year and built 6000 homes, that means 10 people per house.
The Reserve Bank was told this and went pale white. Houses will have to increase as we don’t have any.
